The master's in anaesthetic nursing prepares nurses to work independently in complex and fast-changing settings, providing anaesthesia, analgesia and sedation for operations, examinations and treatment. The clinical profile is strong, with much of the study taking place where the work is done, and the thesis is tied to clinical problems. Students are placed at clinical study sites in Buskerud, Telemark and Vestfold, allocated by the health trusts according to capacity and learning conditions.
The full-time master is taught on campus at Vestfold and organised in nine compulsory courses totalling 120 ECTS credits. USN is the only university in Norway that offers a single-discipline master in anaesthetic nursing. Graduates mainly work in operating and post-operative wards, emergency reception, pain clinics and prehospital transport.
