The master's in public health nursing is for registered nurses who want to work with health promotion and prevention for children, young people and families. The 120-credit study has eight compulsory courses covering public health work, child health linked to health stations, youth health in schools and youth clinics, leadership and service improvement, and work on overweight and obesity with parents. It ends with research theory, method and a master's thesis tied to practice problems. The full-time programme is taught on campus at Porsgrunn and includes ten weeks of practice. Graduates qualify as public health nurses for health stations, school health services, vaccination offices and infection control, and can apply to relevant PhD programmes after meeting grade requirements.
