This further education course gives insight into the Middle East and how historical, religious, cultural and ethnic factors shape political tensions in the region. The core area runs from Egypt in the west to the Persian Gulf in the east, including the Arabian Peninsula and Iran. Four main themes organise the course, including cultural and religious background and the struggle over Jerusalem. The course is part of the master programme in cultural encounters and is credited automatically to that degree for students who go on to complete it. It is studied part-time on campus.
