This master's programme develops analytical, critical, practical and legal competence for complex work with children, young people and families in vulnerable situations. Core courses cover perspectives on these families, child welfare practice, innovation and interprofessional collaboration, research methods and philosophy of science, and law in child welfare work. Students complete a four-week continuous practice period and a 30-credit master's thesis.
Study can be taken full-time or part-time, with progression adjustable during the course. The degree qualifies for positions in municipal and state child welfare services, where a master's requirement applies to certain functions from 2031, and for research and education institutions. It also gives a basis for admission to PhD programmes.
