The Graduate Certificate in Islamic Studies (GCIS), taught in Arabic by HBKU's College of Islamic Studies, is built for people who want a structured grounding in Islamic history, theology, philosophy, law and ethics and how they shape Muslim communities worldwide. Beyond its own value, the certificate also works as a stepping stone toward the College's Master's degree in Contemporary Islamic Studies.
Over one year, the 18-credit programme combines six core courses addressing the foundations of Islamic thought, Qur'an and Hadith studies, applied research methods, and Islamic jurisprudence in relation to politics, family and society. The approach is meant to sharpen students' ability to engage with both classical and contemporary Islamic texts and to apply that thinking to real-world situations and cross-cultural dialogue.
Graduates are expected to carry a deeper sense of Islamic moderation, openness and intellectual nuance into their professional and civic lives.
