UDST's Adv. Dip. ACET is a three-year advanced diploma covering automation and control engineering technology, aimed at graduates of the base diploma, or suitably qualified school leavers, who want to deepen their technical standing within an engineering team. The programme builds on core automation knowledge to cover the installation, troubleshooting and upkeep of control systems, including microprocessor-driven field instruments and programmable controllers used across industrial sites.
Much of the learning happens through practical work rather than lectures alone, so graduates leave able to diagnose faults and maintain automated equipment under real working conditions, not just describe how such systems function in theory. The qualification sits above the standard two-year diploma in the same field, reflecting its narrower, more advanced technical focus.
Entry is open either straight from secondary school, with stronger mathematics and science grades than the base diploma requires, or by progressing from UDST's own two-year diploma in the subject.

Admission Requirements: Entry is either (a) a high-school certificate with a minimum overall average of 60%, plus one final-year Mathematics and one final-year Science course (Chemistry or Physics preferred), or (b) UDST's own two-year Diploma in Automation and Control Engineering Technology, or an equivalent recognised diploma. English is met by the University English Placement Test, an equivalent test, IELTS Academic 5.0 overall with no component below 5.0, or Foundation Program completion. Mathematics is met by 60% on the University Math Placement Test, a SAT score of 480+, or Foundation Program completion.
