UDST's Advanced Diploma in Maintenance Engineering Technology is a three-year programme built for students aiming at a career maintaining mechanical systems and equipment. It extends the technical grounding of the standard diploma, covering the installation, operation and upkeep of mechanical systems in more depth and with a stronger emphasis on independent troubleshooting.
As with the university's other engineering-technology qualifications, teaching is centred on campus laboratories and workshops, where students get repeated, supervised practice on the kind of machinery they will work with after graduation. The aim is to produce technicians who are comfortable diagnosing and fixing mechanical problems on their own, not only describing how the equipment is supposed to work.
Students can join directly from secondary school if they meet the mathematics and science entry requirements, or by having completed the related two-year mechanical engineering technology diploma, which the advanced diploma builds on directly.
