Master of Science (Research) in Sciences

The National Institute of Education offers a Master of Science by research, with candidates specialising in maths and maths education, in natural sciences with science education, or in physical education with sports science. Each area has a programme leader, and the degree can be taken full-time or part-time with a maximum candidature of three years. Coursework from the August 2026 intake onwards totals 10 academic units, made up of 6 units of approved graduate-level electives and 4 units of critical literacy, with seminar attendance also required. Students whose first degree was not taught in English take a graduate English course. Shortlisted applicants are interviewed. Applicants are advised to approach potential supervisors at least three months before the application deadline, since finding a supervisor and preparing a proposal can take longer than expected.
