Overview

The Juris Doctor at Singapore Management University is a postgraduate law degree studied full-time over 3 years, with a single intake each August. It is open to graduates of any discipline, so applicants without a law background are welcome, and the curriculum totals 25 credit units. Core modules run in classes reserved for JD students, while a wide choice of electives lets them extend their legal training in applied and interdisciplinary directions. Graduates who finish with a 3.0 GPA or better become eligible to sit the Singapore Bar examination. Students may add an MBA, a dual JD or a JD-LLM through partner universities, and former SMU LLM students who apply within 3 years of graduating can complete the JD in two years. Part-time study is not offered.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Open to graduates of any discipline, including non-law graduates. Finishing the programme with a GPA of at least 3.0 qualifies graduates to sit the Singapore Bar examination. SMU LLM alumni who apply within 3 years of graduation may complete the JD in two years.
