Program details

Overview

The Journalism MA prepares graduates for media careers by combining practical newsroom skills with critical study of journalistic practice. It suits people who studied a non-journalism undergraduate degree or who want a professional qualification for the industry. The programme holds NCTJ accreditation, which the industry treats as a sign that graduates can work effectively in a busy newsroom. You study digital and social media practice alongside traditional story-gathering, and learn video and audio recording as part of a multi-platform toolkit. Contextual units cover media law and the workings of local and central government. Lectures are delivered by media professionals and academics, and students can publish work on a student journalism website. The NCTJ Diploma in Journalism can also be taken alongside the masters.
