Overview
The University of Brighton is a public university based in Brighton & Hove, on the south coast of England.
Its roots go back to a school of art founded in 1859 in the kitchens of the Royal Pavilion, from which the institution grew through mergers with local colleges of technology and education before gaining university status. Teaching and research are spread across three campuses in the city: Moulsecoomb, the largest, is the main student village; City Campus sits close to the seafront in central Brighton; and Falmer Campus lies on the edge of the South Downs National Park a few miles from the coast.
The university offers foundation, undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral courses across subjects including art and design, business, education, engineering, health sciences, humanities, sport and the built environment. It holds a Silver rating in the UK's Teaching Excellence Framework (2023) and has been recognised with equality and sustainability awards such as the Race Equality Charter, Athena Swan and EcoCampus accreditations.
The university welcomes international students and runs academic departments alongside professional services departments supporting student life across its campuses.
