Alabama State University's Bachelor of Social Work prepares students to support individuals, families and communities in fields such as social work, public health, advocacy and family services. Its accreditation comes from the national social work education council (CSWE).
Course content draws on psychology, anthropology and human behavior, together with social welfare and the policies and services around it. Students also gain practical experience through field work placements at local social service agencies.
The Department of Social Work additionally provides a social welfare minor, which pairs well with several related majors, and it runs a separate master's program. The department organized its program in the 1970s and became a full academic department in the 1990s. Prospective students can review the curriculum, advisement and faculty pages for further detail on the major.
