Overview

Boston University's systems engineering division offers a PhD for applicants who already hold a bachelor's or a master's degree, with study connected to the areas its faculty research. Students who enter holding a bachelor's complete the requirements of the division's master's degree, then take additional units, with most of the remainder chosen with an advisor's approval to suit their research. They earn the master's after finishing its requirements and the prospectus exam. Students entering with a master's have no structured courses but still need a set of graduate-level units. All doctoral students complete research and dissertation credit, rotate through research groups in year one, and meet a teaching requirement before they graduate. Metropolitan College courses do not satisfy the degree requirements.
