The history major covers the United States, Europe and regions beyond the West, giving students a base in the different ways historians interpret the past. Studying how societies, economies, governments and cultures have changed over time helps in judging today's fast-moving world.
Because classes are small, undergraduates work closely with their instructors. Students have interned at museums, historical societies, public affairs groups, advocacy organizations and government offices.
A certificate in international studies, centered on one of five world regions, can be added to the degree. Prospective students can contact the undergraduate admissions office to ask about requirements, costs and next steps, and the university offers financial awards to newly enrolling freshmen. The university is located in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and students there benefit from small classes and close contact with faculty.
