AA/AS in Legal Support Services

Anyone curious about the law can explore it through this two-year associate degree for aspiring paralegals. Coursework introduces many fields, among them criminal and family matters, immigration, employment, property transactions and administrative rules. Students learn to investigate legal questions, draft written documents, and support attorneys. Classroom exercises are complemented by an internship placement with a law firm or a legal department. The college has trained paralegals for several decades, and the program is the sole one in northwestern Wisconsin holding American Bar Association approval. Some specialty courses use live online sessions, and at least nine semester credits are delivered remotely. Graduates can assist attorneys inside public agencies and in private firms. Paralegals are not permitted to offer legal advice or appear for clients in court. Prior education or work may qualify for credit.
