BA/BS in Philosophy and Religious Studies, Other

The Philosophy and Religion major in the Department of Humanities examines major questions humanity has faced, both locally and globally. Students explore philosophical schools, social thought, theology, and the religious heritage of African Americans. An emphasis on social justice and civil and human rights runs through the coursework. Course offerings extend from foundational ethics classes to a study of women in faith. Students develop strong writing and critical thinking skills and learn to reflect carefully on questions that affect communities at home and abroad. Travel and cultural experiences broaden how students understand difference and the pursuit of truth. Graduates may pursue careers in law, government and nonprofit service, teaching, journalism, faith-based organizations, and international programs. The major suits students who want a thoughtful foundation for public service and advocacy.
