This Master of Science trains students to apply economic reasoning to agricultural questions. Graduates learn to build and estimate econometric models, run surveys and experiments, and draw conclusions from data about how people, firms and governments behave.
The questions studied are broad. They can involve banking and credit, environmental stewardship, woodland management, medical care, insurance, marketing, regional growth, sports businesses and sustainability.
Teaching comes from economists in the agricultural sciences department and the university's economics department, joined by statisticians from mathematical sciences. The agricultural sciences department administers the program. In the admission decision, reviewers look at a transcript, a GRE result, a statement of purpose, two recommendations, and any experience that bears on the field, alongside the Graduate School's own rules. The page describes these as the full set of criteria considered when an applicant is evaluated.
