MA/MS in City/Urban, Community, and Regional Planning

This graduate planning degree was launched in 1968 and has held full accreditation since 1973. Within South Carolina, it is the sole graduate program focused on planning. Its alumni now number more than 700 across the state and region. Students arrive from many undergraduate majors and professional backgrounds. Classes usually contain about 15 to 20 students, and the modest size lets faculty engage closely with students across their coursework and in research projects. The curriculum draws on other university departments, including architecture, economics, and transportation-related engineering. Several studios bring together students from multiple colleges to tackle planning and land development in a shared, interdisciplinary setting. Graduate students from varied backgrounds shape those discussions. Graduates have helped shape planning practice throughout the state.
