BA/BS in Classics and Classical Languages, Literatures, and Linguistics

Classics at Lewis & Clark explores Greek and Roman cultures through several disciplines, building abilities to think critically, research, write and debate that carry into many careers. The interdisciplinary curriculum has two major concentrations, Classical civilizations and ancient language. Every Classics degree includes Classical Latin or ancient Greek so that students read major works from antiquity in the original. Students can join a Greece program with bases in Athens and on Lesbos to study archaeological sites firsthand. A colloquium series brings scholars to campus, and faculty-student research grants have helped several students take part in an excavation of a Roman villa in Italy and present their findings. Offered at Lewis & Clark in Portland, Oregon, the major sits alongside a wide list of other majors and minors, so students can pair it with another subject and build a broader liberal arts education.
