The art department at Lewis & Clark has a studio art major, an art history major and a shared minor. The aim is visual literacy that helps students navigate the contemporary world. The studio art program has strong facilities and faculty committed to craft and to current critical questions in artistic practice. The art history program surveys art from across the globe and through human history, with period courses and thematic seminars that approach art through ideas as well as chronology. Graduates are prepared for graduate school and for careers as working artists or in galleries, museums and arts management, and they develop creative and critical thinking through both making and discussing art.
