BA/BS in Mathematics

Mathematics at Lewis & Clark is presented as both a set of tools for other disciplines and an art form with its own aesthetic values. The department emphasizes an inclusive community of students and faculty. The program offers one major, with several tracks depending on student interest, and one minor. The curriculum develops conceptual and computational intuition, skill in analyzing complicated structures, and a broad set of technical methods. Many students study abroad for a term or a full year. The department also hosts a yearly outing to Mount Hood or the Oregon Coast, a shared space near faculty offices for studying and meals, and a regular colloquium. Offered at Lewis & Clark in Portland, Oregon, the major sits alongside a wide list of other majors and minors, so students can pair it with another subject and build a broader liberal arts education.
