History at Lewis & Clark treats research as a process of discovery in which students question their own assumptions and those of others. Each student produces a thesis grounded in deep research, analysis and precise writing.
Students may choose a major or a minor. The curriculum is global, inviting comparison among traditions of different cultures and countries, and courses develop deep knowledge of modern and premodern history in the Americas, Europe and Asia.
Students work with faculty on research, including a paid humanities summer program, and receive support finding internships and practica in Portland and beyond. Graduates enter fields such as library management, foreign service, journalism and teaching.
The program sits within the undergraduate college of Lewis & Clark in Portland, Oregon, a liberal arts setting where students can combine this major with other fields, a minor, or study on an overseas program during their degree.
