AA/AS in Biology, General

Biology at Long Beach City College gives students a grounding in scientific reasoning, cell and molecular biology, genetics, evolution, organisms and ecology. The associate in science for transfer prepares them for a bachelor's program at a university. A local associate in science in biological sciences is also available, with emphases in terrestrial and sustainability studies, marine science and health science. The transfer degree is the one built to meet CSU transfer requirements. A biology degree is not required for medical school or allied health programs, though those programs do expect a set of prerequisite science courses. Graduates may go on to research, biotechnology, dentistry, pharmacy, medicine or veterinary medicine. Students can meet with counselors to map out an educational plan, and the college career center helps them explore internships and goals that fit their strengths. A program mapper and a list of required courses are published for each award, so students can plan their terms ahead of time.
