AA/AS in Communication and Media Studies

Mass communication at Northwest Vista College examines the channels that carry information and entertainment to audiences, including long-established news and broadcast outlets. Students look at how these channels are structured, funded and influential. Offerings include classes in mass communication basics, gathering and writing news, advertising fundamentals, film appreciation, and scripting for radio, television and film. The discipline is housed in the communication arts department under the creative and communication arts institute. It is set up as a pre-major, meaning students complete lower-division work here and then transfer to a university to finish a media or communication degree. The program page names faculty, staff and the department's academic leadership and gives office locations and phone numbers for advising questions. Prospective students can use the program page to find contacts and next steps, and they should speak with an advisor to confirm how courses fit their degree plan and transfer goals.
