Students in this major study political, economic and cultural problems from a worldwide viewpoint. The faculty bring expertise ranging from global institutions and economic development to post-conflict elections, comparative politics, and visual culture, literature and film, with special depth on Asian, Middle Eastern and African regions.
The approach crosses disciplines, pairing language study with international political economy and intercultural work, and it gives students room to build knowledge of a chosen world region. Some take part in research alongside professors.
To graduate, majors demonstrate ability in two languages up to the 252 course level, or take two advanced courses in one language. Graduates pursue diplomacy, government service, global institutions, advocacy bodies, and faith-based or humanitarian service. Overseas study and internships are both encouraged.
