AA/AS in American Sign Language

The American Sign Language program at Reedley College leads to an Associate of Arts degree. Students can also stack a Conversational Proficiency Certificate of Achievement while they work toward the degree. Instruction covers how the language is structured and many facets of Deaf culture. The goal is for learners to become skilled allies of people in Deaf and hard-of-hearing communities. Faculty include both Deaf professors and hearing professors who are children of Deaf adults, and they bring experience in language immersion and interpreting. Graduates may find work as paraeducators or interpreting aides in classrooms serving Deaf and hard-of-hearing students, or in organizations that serve them. The program can also begin a path toward teaching, audiology, social work, or speech pathology.
