AA/AS in Marine Transportation

The Maritime program at San Jacinto College leads to an AAS degree, intended for people who want to work as mariners. It was built with input from mariners and is taught by licensed captains and experienced industry professionals. Instruction centers on seamanship, how vessels are run, navigation and safety. Classes meet at the Maritime Campus on the Houston Ship Channel turning basin, where students train with simulators, a dock for practice and an industry dock rather than learning only from lectures. Full-time students finish the degree in six terms, two of which are summer terms. Students may also begin with a certificate and move into the degree later, or enter the degree directly. The college describes its maritime training as federally recognized.
