BA/BS in Criminal Justice and Corrections

This program studies the American justice system in depth, concentrating on its institutions and the pressing questions that shape how it responds to crime. Coursework looks at policing, courts, prisons and homeland security, and pays attention to special populations such as young people, women, minorities and people who are not citizens. The catalog is wide, ranging from criminal law to unusual electives, and small class sizes allow students to build relationships with professors and take part in experiential learning. Graduates prepare for varied careers in policing, protection and fairness-oriented work, such as forensics, counseling, administration and community programs. The training also supports other paths into journalism, intelligence analysis, computer forensics and private or fraud investigation. Courses rest on historical and philosophical ideas about rights and authority as well as their practical use today.
