Cert in Fire Protection

The Professional Firefighter certificate trains career, part-time and volunteer firefighters to meet the national standard for Firefighter I and II. Completing it also supports certification through the State of Ohio. Students practice putting out fires and carrying out rescues, learn skills used in public fire protection, and work on the coordination needed when hazardous materials are involved. Applicants must hold a valid driver's license. The Fire Science Technology department delivers the certificate, which is designed for people aiming to serve as firefighters in Ohio. The Fire Science Technology department within the Business and Public Services division administers this short-term certificate, which totals 12 credit hours in the version effective Fall 2018. Prospective students should review the full course list on the program page and meet with an academic advisor to plan their schedule.
