Overview

The Communication Studies transfer pathway is an associate degree focused on how people communicate. Coursework looks at interpersonal, small group and intercultural exchange as well as argumentation and debate, with emphasis on reflective practice and well-reasoned persuasion. Graduates may move toward advertising, public relations, human resources, marketing, education, journalism or technical writing, among other fields. Skyline College designed this degree for students who plan to finish a bachelor's at a California State University campus. Finishing it earns a place somewhere in the CSU system, though not at a chosen campus or in a chosen major, and later study at the university stays within a 60-unit ceiling. Applicants aiming at a specific school or at institutions outside the CSU should talk with a Skyline counselor first, since this pathway may not suit them. Every major course needs a C or better.
