Program details

Overview

The Assistant Chef certificate gives practical training for restaurant and food service work. Graduates may qualify as assistant chefs or as commercial and hospital food service workers across campuses, school kitchens, healthcare facilities, restaurants and fast-service outlets. It suits students wanting a briefer course of study than the longer two longer degree options in restaurant, hotel and cooking studies, and graduates can step into either degree while losing little credit. Besides textbooks, students are expected to buy uniforms and a knife set, and they must follow the dress and sanitation rules of the American Culinary Federation and the state health code. Anyone considering the program can open the published degree plan to see what must be completed and in what order, ask the college for more details through an online form, or begin an application straight from the program page, where a named contact handles questions.
