BA/BS in Fine and Studio Arts

The Combined Degree at SMFA leads to two credentials over five years: a Bachelor of Fine Arts together with a liberal arts or science bachelor's degree. The first year mixes studio exploration with liberal arts and sciences coursework, using both campuses. Students then follow an open studio curriculum in which their own ideas guide the work, and add a major from a large selection of arts and sciences subjects. The pairing lets graduates join creative practice with another discipline, such as science or social activism, and finish through review boards and a senior thesis. Graduates are positioned for varied art careers, whether in studio practice or in work that combines art with another field of knowledge. Students spend the first year exploring both studio and academic subjects before choosing a path.
