This undergraduate major takes an interdisciplinary view of the worldwide changes that tie societies together. Students examine subjects such as migration, governance, the world economy, inequality, identity, peace and conflict, and environmental change.
Beyond the general course of study, undergraduates can specialize in one of three regional tracks: Europe, Latin America and the Caribbean, or the Middle East. The university supports the international emphasis through a well-regarded study abroad office, teaching in dozens of languages, and internships at home and overseas.
The degree is presented as good preparation for law school and graduate study, and for work in journalism, the foreign service, business, education, politics, government and social service organizations. Students fulfill the university's general education core alongside the major, and a particular introductory course is expected early.
