BA/BS in Chemistry

Chemistry at Valparaiso University offers several degree options built to meet the needs of students heading to graduate study, professional schools, teaching, or industrial and government work. The department reports strong medical school acceptance and employment outcomes for its majors. Students begin using substantial instrumentation in their first year, in a modern building, and all classes and labs are taught by faculty holding doctorates in small sections. The campus is centrally placed among large industrial cities in the region, which supports career connections. The bachelor of science track is approved by the American Chemical Society for training professional chemists and covers all five major areas of chemistry. Any bachelor's degree from the College of Arts and Sciences requires a minimum of 124 total credits. Applicants are encouraged to review those requirements early so they can plan their coursework and see how the major fits their goals.
