BA/BS in Chemistry

Chemistry majors at Walsh study the makeup and behavior of matter, including living cells, at the molecular level. The knowledge helps chemists create new molecules, confirm what substances are and predict how matter will react in new situations. Students learn from instructors with applied experience and work in modern teaching and research labs in the science innovation center. Required lab activities give graduates substantial research experience, and electives cover specialized topics such as biochemistry, chromatography, group theory and molecular pharmacology. Summer research programs offer further practice. Graduates can enter master's or doctoral programs, work in research, quality control or medical and pharmaceutical sales, or continue to professional schools in medicine, pharmacy and dentistry. Small classes and close contact with instructors support students as they move toward graduate study or industry roles.
