BA/BS in Criminal Justice and Corrections

Walsh's Criminal Justice program studies offending, the work of police and courts, deviance and modern corrections. Treated as a sociological science, it looks for patterns in criminal behavior and asks how well society can control crime, covering causes, prevention, legal process and rehabilitation. The major rests on a liberal arts core with an interactive classroom and small classes that bring students into regular contact with professors. Service learning connects them with regional organizations, and their home school in the behavioral and health area involves students in research. Graduates prepare for careers as police officers, probation or parole officers, federal agents, paralegals, mediators, court administrators and victim services specialists. The program suits students who want to understand why crime occurs and how communities can respond.
