The Studio Art MFA is run by the art and art history department at Wayne State University, named for James Pearson Duffy. It is a multidisciplinary studio program in which students pursue many kinds of media within an intensive working environment, and it encourages practice-based research placed in wider cultural contexts.
Candidates declare Art as their major and may concentrate on one area or work across several. Supported disciplines span fine art media such as ceramics, drawing, painting, sculpture and printmaking, design fields including fashion, graphic, industrial and interior design, and digital art, fibers, metalsmithing and photography.
The degree totals sixty credit hours and requires full-time enrollment, finishing in three years. Each student is guided by a graduate review committee, and the department hosts visiting artists and critics. Students who began before Fall 2021 follow earlier bulletin requirements.
