BA/BS in Computer Science

Computer science at Whitworth is taught within a combined mathematics and computer science department. Students build a base in programming, statistics and mathematics, then move toward data science, databases, networking and software engineering. Faculty members often work across disciplines, and they encourage students to carry computing and quantitative methods into other areas of study. Those areas range from laboratory sciences to commerce, manufacturing and the study of human society, so a graduate can fit into many different workplaces. Because the department pairs computing with mathematical reasoning, students learn to treat software problems analytically rather than only technically. Small classes on a liberal arts campus give them regular contact with instructors who know their work and can guide their choices about electives, projects and career direction.
