The music department describes itself as a community of musicians who see creative expression as part of being made in God's image. Its work joins individual and shared artistry in service of a larger purpose, and it prepares students for professional careers, graduate study and a lifelong relationship with music.
Majors lead to the bachelor of arts. The music major offers tracks in composition, instrumental performance, jazz performance, voice performance and string pedagogy. Separate degrees exist in music education, with choral and instrumental emphases, and in music production and recording.
Students explore how music intersects with the Christian tradition and other outlooks across history and in present-day culture, and they begin vocational discovery within a liberal arts education. Introductory courses address the idea of vocation and the habits of listening. Minors in music and in worship leadership are also offered, and the department publishes a guide for majors.
