Program details

Overview

The Chemistry major leads to a Bachelor of Science and teaches organic, inorganic, analytical and physical chemistry as well as biochemistry. Students gain laboratory experience through research projects alongside faculty in campus labs. The first year pairs general chemistry and its lab with calculus, composition and a first-year seminar. Later courses include organic chemistry, biochemistry and a research and seminar sequence in which undergraduates conduct research under faculty mentors, write a thesis and present findings to guest speakers and peers. An American Chemical Society approved pathway is available for a few extra credit hours, and students should speak with their adviser about it. The program belongs to the Chemistry Department. Prospective students can use the program page to review the sample course sequence, learn about related majors and student clubs, and request more information or begin an application online.
