Overview
Overview Combine your strategic and design thinking for a career creating functional spaces. The Bachelor of Interior Design (Honours) degree program prepares you to pursue a professional career related to the design of the built environment. The curriculum integrates professional and general studies with an emphasis on critical thinking and applied research. Enriched with a focus on environmental and global perspectives in interior design, you learn to consider ecological, economic and social aspects to analyze and design healthy living and working environments. Projects increase in scale and complexity from residential scale to medium and large scale projects from commercial sectors such as retail, workplace, hospitality and healthcare. The program contains a strong experiential component that includes design studio experiences and an active engagement with the professional design community. In the fourth year, you have the opportunity to specialize in an area of interest specific to the profession and are required to complete an applied research paper and community-based project. You also earn a Building Biology Advocate (BBA) Certification upon successful completion of the seven required Construction courses. Students also gain real-world experience through a paid co-operative education (co-op) work term(s) (see Additional Information for more details). Please note that places in the co-op work term(s) are subject to availability and academic eligibility. Please note admission to a co-op program does not guarantee a co-op placement. The integration of theory, analysis and practice prepare you to assume a leadership role within the profession. As a graduate, you are able to apply strategic thinking and a research orientation to your responsibilities as a professional interior designer and can contribute to the development and evolution of the field of design.

Admission Requirements: This bridging program is open to graduates of a recognized advanced (three-year) interior design diploma with a minimum cumulative grade point of 3.0 (B). Admitted students must complete five online bridging courses - Critical Thinking and Academic Writing, Topics in Design History and Theory, Perspectives in Interior Design, Sustainable Issues, and Issues in Psychology - before entering the fourth year, and must complete a minimum 14-week paid summer co-op placement. Applications go through ontariocolleges.ca with official transcripts; those received by February 1 get equal consideration, after which offers are made first-come, first-served, with a September start. The program's own page does not publish English-proficiency test scores or portfolio requirements for this bridging route and links to the Registrar's Office for further detail.

Application Deadline:Domestic applicants apply through ontariocolleges.ca: for September 2027 entry the application portal opens 26 September 2026, the equal consideration date is 1 February 2027, and offers must be accepted by 1 May 2027, while later applications are still assessed as space allows; Algonquin publishes no separate equal-consideration date for the January 2027 intake. International applicants apply directly via Algonquin's own International Application Portal, not ontariocolleges.ca; instead of one fixed date the college posts a program-by-program closing-date list shortly before each term starts - for Fall 2026 most programs closed 16 September 2026, technology programs by 9-10 September; no Winter 2027 or Fall 2027 international list has been posted yet, so admission remains effectively rolling until each list is published and fills. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
