Indigenous Studies Foundations - Inuit, Metis, and First Nations is a one-year Ontario College Certificate at Algonquin College, delivered over two levels and open to both Indigenous and non-Indigenous learners. The program examines Indigenous worldviews, community practices, and the contributions of Inuit, Metis, and First Nations peoples to the land, framed around the principles of responsibility, respect, relationality, and reciprocity. Coursework covers land relationships, environmental stewardship, governance, legal traditions, language revitalization, and arts and culture, building transferable personal and professional skills alongside this subject knowledge. Graduates can pursue employment in public, private, non-profit, and government sectors that engage with Indigenous communities, or continue their studies into Algonquin's two-year Indigenous Studies diploma program. The certificate is intended for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous students and does not require prior study of Indigenous topics.
