Overview
Electrical Engineering Technician is a two-year Ontario College Diploma delivered at Algonquin College's Algonquin Centre for Construction Excellence, offered in co-op and non-co-op versions. The curriculum covers electrical principles, electrical codes and regulations, electromagnetic controls, machinery, instrumentation, robotics, telecommunications, and computer-aided design using AutoCAD, alongside the design, installation, maintenance, and repair of electrical systems ranging from residential wiring to industrial machinery and control systems. The program is recognized by the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists as meeting the academic requirements for Certified Technician (C.Tech) certification. Students work with current equipment and tools in dedicated labs. Graduates who wish to continue their studies can progress into the Electrical Engineering Technology Advanced Diploma. The program prepares graduates for technician roles supporting electrical design, installation, and maintenance work across residential, commercial, and industrial settings.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Ontario Secondary School Diploma (OSSD) or equivalent, or Mature Student status (19 years of age or older and without a high school diploma). Program-specific requirements: English, Grade 12 (ENG4C or equivalent), and Mathematics, Grade 12 (MCT4C), or Grade 11 (MCR3U), or Grade 12 (MAP4C with a grade of 65% or higher), or Grade 11 (MCF3M with a grade of 65% or higher), or equivalent. International applicants must demonstrate English proficiency through IELTS Academic (6.0 overall, no band below 5.5), TOEFL iBT (80 overall, no component below 20), or the Duolingo English Test (overall 110, minimum 110 in Literacy, no score below 95).
