This in-school apprenticeship program (Trade 313D) trains registered apprentices in the residential air conditioning trade at Algonquin College's ACCE campus. In-school training is delivered as two 8-week class and lab sessions (16 weeks total), interspersed with 8 to 12 months of on-the-job work with a sponsoring employer between sessions. The first level covers mechanical and cooling-cycle components, electrical installation procedures, soldering and brazing techniques, and construction health and safety; the second level covers residential air conditioning systems and controls, plan reading and sketching, and cooling-load calculations and psychrometrics. Applicants must be formally registered apprentices, released by their sponsoring employer to attend the college, with eligibility determined by the Ontario Ministry of Labour, Immigration, Training and Skills Development. Completion of both in-school levels works toward journeyperson certification in the residential air conditioning trade.
