Overview
Drama at Bishop's University is a Bachelor of Arts (B.A.) Major offered by the Department of Drama in the Faculty of Humanities. The program provides hands-on training in theatre through productions, festivals, and workshops, with practical experience gained in professional venues including the black box Turner Studio Theatre and Centennial Theatre. Students can pursue a Musical Theatre Concentration alongside core coursework spanning acting, technical direction, costume design, and dramaturgy, preparing graduates for roles in performance, arts administration, and education. The department also hosts an annual Artists-in-Residence program, bringing guest directors and playwrights to campus through the Gallup endowment. The program admits students each Fall and Winter term and is open to applicants from high school, CEGEP, another university, or outside Canada. Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission is assessed by applicant category. CEGEP students who have completed or are completing a DEC may apply regardless of the DEC's field of study, with no specific prerequisite courses required; the estimated minimum admission average is a 24 global R-Score (25 R-Score for School of Education programs). Canadian high school applicants from outside Quebec must complete five Grade 12 level university-preparatory courses, including Grade 12 level English, three Approved courses, and one further Approved or Option course; required and approved courses vary by province. International, IB, transfer, mature-student, and other applicant categories have their own published requirements. All applicants must submit a recent transcript, and CEGEP applicants must also provide their Quebec permanent code. Meeting the posted minimum does not guarantee admission, as applications are evaluated competitively when demand exceeds available spaces.
