Overview

Pre-Law at Bishop's University is offered as a Minor or Certificate through the Pre-Law Program in the Faculty of Humanities. The program introduces students to the theoretical foundations of law-making and legal interpretation, concepts of justice and equity, and civic governance and responsible citizenship, while building knowledge across related disciplines such as literature, history, politics, and criminology. It extends learning beyond the classroom through collaborative ties with the Pre-Law Student Society and program alumni. The credential is designed for students considering law school or careers requiring a strong grounding in legal reasoning and civic institutions, and can be paired with a student's primary degree program. The program admits students each Fall and Winter term and is open to applicants from high school, CEGEP, another university, or outside Canada.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Admission is assessed by applicant category. CEGEP students who have completed or are completing a DEC may apply regardless of the DEC's field of study, with no specific prerequisite courses required; the estimated minimum admission average is a 24 global R-Score (25 R-Score for School of Education programs). Canadian high school applicants from outside Quebec must complete five Grade 12 level university-preparatory courses, including Grade 12 level English, three Approved courses, and one further Approved or Option course; required and approved courses vary by province. International, IB, transfer, mature-student, and other applicant categories have their own published requirements. All applicants must submit a recent transcript, and CEGEP applicants must also provide their Quebec permanent code. Meeting the posted minimum does not guarantee admission, as applications are evaluated competitively when demand exceeds available spaces.
