Overview
The Advanced Safety Management Certificate provides a deeper understanding of safety management and explore several health and safety topics in more depth. You'll also take several business courses to increase your knowledge of the business side of safety. This program builds upon the knowledge and skills students acquired in the Associate Certificate in Foundations in Occupational Health and Safety program. Completion of this program after the Associate Certificate in Foundations in Occupational Health and Safety program will allow you to meet the educational requirements for certification as a Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP).
Requirements
Admission Requirements: Admission requires prior completion of BCIT's Associate Certificate in Foundations of Occupational Health and Safety. The English-language requirement sits in BCIT's Category 3 band, met by English Studies 12 at 50% or equivalent, or by Category 3 international scores (IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band under 5.0, TOEFL iBT 82 with no section under 19, PTE Academic 52 with no skill under 50, or Duolingo 105 with no integrated subscore under 80), per BCIT's institution-wide English Language Proficiency page. BCIT recommends, without requiring, high-school graduation, five or more years of work experience, computer skills, and an interest in workplace safety and working across organizational levels. Places are offered on a first-qualified basis as space allows within each Flexible Learning intake. The program's own page notes that international applicants must already hold valid Canadian immigration status other than a study permit, since study-permit holders in this program do not qualify for a Post-Graduation Work Permit.
