Program details

Overview

The certificate offers three specialised options, in electrophysiology technology, cardiovascular technology, and cardiac rhythm device technology, each aimed at building expertise in diagnosing and treating heart conditions. Online coursework is combined with hands-on clinical practicums to build hands-on ability in managing disorders of heart rhythm, supporting cardiac procedures, and interpreting complex arrhythmias with advanced technology.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Applicants need either a minimum two-year allied-health diploma or degree, a minimum two-year diploma or degree in nursing, or a relevant BSc with allied-health experience, plus three prerequisite courses at 60%: CARD 2201 (ECG Interpretation), CARD 3360 (Cardiac Pharmacology) and BHSC 3302 (Cardiac Pathophysiology). BCIT also asks for a letter of reference showing a minimum two years of recent clinical practice in cardiology or cardiac sciences with patient-care experience, and a signed Clinical Verification form confirming a sponsoring clinical site, since BCIT does not provide one. English language proficiency follows BCIT's Category 2 standard, English Studies 12 at 67% or equivalent. Credentials from outside Canada, the US, the UK, Australia or New Zealand require ICES evaluation, and a criminal record check, immunization records and current CPR certification are required before final acceptance.

Application Details

Application Deadline: BCIT publishes common credential application dates for most cohort-based diplomas, degrees and Flexible Learning routes, though each program's own page governs: for the January 2027 intake domestic applications run 1 February 2026 to 2 January 2027 and international to 1 November 2026; for the April 2027 intake domestic runs 1 May 2026 to 1 April 2027 and international to 1 February 2027; for September 2027 domestic applications open 1 October 2026 and close 1 September 2027, international 2 July 2027. Openings are 9:00 am and deadlines 11:59 pm Pacific Time, moving to the next business day on a weekend. Admission is not institute-wide rolling, but many programs work first-qualified-first-accepted and can fill before the posted deadline, and several programs, mostly in Health Sciences, trades and graduate studies, run entirely separate application tables of their own. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
