Overview

The Computer Systems Technology (CST) combines computer systems theory with hands-on practical experience in software development. You’ll learn software engineering and programming from industry professionals, and gain experience working on projects from concept to deployment. You can choose to specialize in areas like artificial intelligence, client servers, technical programming, web and mobile, and more. Additionally, you'll get the chance to work with an industry sponsor on a project before graduating and embarking on a career as an entry-level software developer, application programmer, software tester, or network or database administrator.

Requirements

Admission Requirements: Open to both domestic and international applicants; international applicants need a valid study permit before the program starts, and BCIT states the program currently meets Post-Graduation Work Permit field-of-study eligibility (CIP 15.1202), with the final decision resting with Immigration, Refugees and Citizenship Canada. Qualified applicants are accepted on a first-qualified basis while space remains. Requirements: English Studies 12 at 67% or equivalent (Category 2), and mathematics — Pre-Calculus 12 at 67% or another accepted BC or Yukon course listed on BCIT's equivalencies page.

Application Details

Start Date: September and January each year.

Application Deadline: Two intakes: for September, applications open 1 October and close 1 September for domestic applicants and 2 July for international applicants; for January, they open 15 March — later than BCIT's usual 1 February — and close 2 January domestic and 1 November international. Places go on a first-qualified basis while seats remain. International applicants are accepted with a valid study permit.
