Overview
The Architectural and Building Technology (ABT) Certificate is designed to provide students with a competency skill level for working in the field of housing and small building design and construction. This program is designed for you if you want to advance in your career or are currently working in design/build offices for homes and small commercial projects, material suppliers and installers, estimating, and real estate marketing, property management and municipal offices. Once you graduate, you may satisfy some of the academic requirements of the ASTTBC, BOABC, and IDIBC.
Requirements
Admission Requirements: The program sets English Studies 12 at 50% or equivalent — BCIT's Category 3 English band — as its stated entrance requirement, met alternatively by Category 3 international scores (IELTS Academic 6.0 overall with no band under 5.0, TOEFL iBT 82 with no section under 19, PTE Academic 52 with no skill under 50, or Duolingo 105 with no integrated subscore under 80), per BCIT's institution-wide English Language Proficiency page. BCIT recommends, without requiring, a Grade 10 education or equivalent, and notes that individual courses within the program carry their own additional requirements and prerequisites. Applicants who meet all entrance requirements are accepted on a first-qualified basis as long as space remains, with domestic deadlines of January 2, April 1 and September 1 and earlier international deadlines of November 1, February 1 and July 2 for the three intakes.

Application Deadline:BCIT publishes common credential application dates for most cohort-based diplomas, degrees and Flexible Learning routes, though each program's own page governs: for the January 2027 intake domestic applications run 1 February 2026 to 2 January 2027 and international to 1 November 2026; for the April 2027 intake domestic runs 1 May 2026 to 1 April 2027 and international to 1 February 2027; for September 2027 domestic applications open 1 October 2026 and close 1 September 2027, international 2 July 2027. Openings are 9:00 am and deadlines 11:59 pm Pacific Time, moving to the next business day on a weekend. Admission is not institute-wide rolling, but many programs work first-qualified-first-accepted and can fill before the posted deadline, and several programs, mostly in Health Sciences, trades and graduate studies, run entirely separate application tables of their own. These are institution-wide dates; this programme publishes no deadline of its own.
